Company Culture

We realize that the well-being of a community relies heavily on effort put forth to maintain environmental and social health. RECON is dedicated in aiding our communities both as a company and on an individual employee basis.

We are a Top Workplace! From 2021 to 2023, RECON has been named a Top Workplace by the San Diego Union-Tribune. We have also been honored with Top Workplaces Special Awards for leadership and work-life balance!

Employee Stock Ownership Program

RECON has adopted the Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) to enable our employees to share in the value and the growth of the company by owning stock of the company. The ESOP is a tax-qualified benefit provided at no cost to the employee.

As employee owners, we collectively contribute to RECON’s success. In turn, our success as a company directly affects our ESOP share value. Over the past 50 years, RECON’s revenue has continued to grow due to the hard work and dedication of our employee-owners.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

We believe that a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment makes a more relevant, competitive, and resilient company.

  • Diversity

We value and celebrate differences and believe that it makes us stronger and better equipped to serve our clients and community. At RECON, we believe that varied lived experiences bring needed insight and perspective that ultimately help us make better, more informed decisions. We build diverse teams and encourage behaviors that support an inclusive, respectful, and safe working environment. We do not tolerate discrimination based on sex (identity, orientation, or pregnancy), ethnicity, race, religion, disability, age, or any other form of identity.

  • Equity

In all our activities, we strive to promote equity, both within our workplace and in the broader community. We realize that access to resources and opportunities needed to pursue higher education in the consulting field are not equitably distributed in society and acknowledge our own role and responsibility in addressing those inequities. We are committed to making sound and equitable hiring decisions and fostering a culture of equal opportunity where everyone has an equal chance to succeed.

  • Inclusion

We foster a culture of inclusion and strive to ensure that every individual feels welcomed, valued, and respected. We firmly believe that an inclusive culture makes us stronger as a team. In our pursuit of inclusion, we provide a working environment that is psychologically and physically safe for everyone. Our commitment is to create a space where every individual feels secure, supported, and able to thrive both personally and professionally. Together, we are creating a culture where inclusion is a lived experience.

Some of the ways RECON reaches out.

  • Loretta (left) and Linda (right) with a donation ready for drop-off.

RECON is a long-time supporter of Computers 2 Kids, San Diego through the donation of our used computers and electronic equipment. Computers 2 Kids recycles and refurbishes computers and provides them to individuals and families in need. They also provide education, training, and technical support, all with the goal of providing children with higher chances for future success.

  • Bronwyn Brown (left) and Katy Chappaz (right) at the SANDAG awards

RECON is an avid and long-time supporter of SANDAG’s iCommute program through participation in their annual National Rideshare Week and Bike to Work events. In support of SANDAG’s campaign, RECON encourages carpooling, provides MTS Transit passes, provides bicycle parking and allowances for cycling, and promotes telework. SANDAG has recognized our contribution to the reduction of traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions in the region by presenting us with a Diamond Award.

  • Rendering of the River Center at Grant Park by RNT Architects

The San Diego River travels more than 50 miles from mile-high mountains to the ocean, past the RECON main office in Mission Valley. Its natural and cultural resources are immense. RECON has supported the San Diego River Park Foundation in their quest to create a better future for the San Diego River and its amazing ecoregion through assistance with City of San Diego permitting for the River Center at Grant Park, biological and cultural surveys for the River Center and critical watershed properties, construction monitoring, revegetation planning and financial support. Together people and nature can thrive!
